SACROILIAC DYSFUNCTION
INFLAMMATION OF THE SACROILIAC JOINT
ANATOMY
The sacroiliac joint at the base of the spine, formed between the sacrum and the ilium bones of the pelvis. It is a strong joint with limited movement.
SYMPTOMS
- Deep aching and stiffness in the lower part of the lumbar region, usually on one side. These symptoms are most pronounced in the morning and after periods of inactivity.
- The aching can radiate towards the buttock, back of the thigh or the groin.
- Inflammation of the sacroiliac joint can, however, be painless.
- Tenderness over the joint lines on the back of the pelvis.
