CMC JOINT
CARPOMETACARPAL JOINT INJURIES
ANATOMY
The Carpometacarpal (CMC) joint is the joint of the extension of the thumb to the wrist. The opposing joint surfaces are saddle shaped to allow more movement: flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, axial rotation.
MECHANISM OF INJURY
Generally due to forced hyperextension and abduction of the first CMC joint.
